I offer supervision to trainees who are in the process of writing a dissertation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The task of writing a dissertation as part of a counselling or psychotherapy training is challenging in that it demands several skills. Typically, you will choose an area of practice which interests you, and will investigate how this area relates to you or your clients. You will need to understand specific concepts and theories of counselling and psychotherapy, and how they relate to your topic. A key part of the dissertation will involve reflecting on your own experiences and your psychobiography, delving deeper into what your topic means for you. You might then explore the ways in which your learning could be applied to your client work, or perhaps be useful to other practitioners. As you write up your research you will need to meet academic criteria, usually including the use of appropriate referencing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Supervision can help with all of these aspects of the dissertation process. You might want to discuss a theory and clarify your understanding; the process of self-reflection can be easier within a shared discussion; ideas of how learning might apply to practice might emerge through dialogue; academic writing can be honed with constructive feedback.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
